Torch founder’s last child ‘Betty Page’ passes away

THE last of Torch founder Les Engisch’s children, Betty, 98, has passed away.

The youngest of four and born in Bankstown five years after the newspaper began, Betty was a Torch director and held a variety of roles in the newspaper office as well as in the factory. She married American GI Harold (Hal) Page, moved to Wisconsin, USA, and had two children, April and Phillip (Pip), with four grandchildren and three great grand-children following. The young family moved back to Bankstown where they lived for many years before Betty retired to the North Coast, eventually settling on a farm near Lismore. She will be farewelled at 10am on Friday at Parkview Gardens, Goonellabah, Lismore.
