Top cop in bid to connect

IT’S been a busy first week for Auburn’s new top cop superintendent Adam Johnson who says he’s impressed with what he’s seen so far.

Following on the heels of “a well respected and experienced commander” after the retirement of Detective Superintendent Phil Rogerson, the new commander of the Auburn Police Area Command plans to build on that legacy.
“There’s a very positive culture within this command,” he said.
“On my first morning here, I went for a walk around the Auburn shops and just sensed a feeling of good will in the community.”
A strong advocate for policing within the community, Supt Johnson says he plans to ensure a highly visible police presence, with officers out and interacting with the community.
“Customer service is our number one priority, but we still have a no-nonsense approach to people who choose to break the law,” he said.
Racking up 30 years in the job, he says he is just as energetic and committed to being a policeman as when he joined in 1990 and admits there is a long list of people and stakeholders to meet as he settles into his new role.
“I am absolutely delighted to be here as the commander of this area,” he said.
“I’m proud to be here, to be representing the police in the local community.
“I want to take a collaborative approach and build strong positive relationships. At the end of the day we need a good relationship with the community to do our job properly.”
One key focus is on encouraging every household in the area to follow the Command’s Facebook page.
“I want people to get on there and like it, because there will be lots of community messaging on there, videos and other interactions,” he said.
“I think there is an opportunity to get more people engaged.”
