Dress in ‘orange’ to help celebrate
Recognising our diversity and bringing together Australians from all different backgrounds, Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
One of the biggest events on their calendar, Waters & Carpenter First National Real Estate is a staunch Harmony Day supporter and has been from the beginning.
The Auburn firm’s Property Manager Ceren Sancak says they love greeting newcomers to Australia and supporting them in their new life as much as possible.
“Especially here in Auburn, we see a lot of different cultures, a lot of new arrivals trying to establish their new home,” she said.
“In fact, our agency is often the first group of faces that new migrants meet and we are always there for them and love seeing them establish their families in their new community.
“We don’t just assist with their property needs but help them to organise facilities like electricity, the internet and even provide documents for them to assist in enrolling their children at school.”
Australian importer and distributor of Middle Eastern products, Harkola in Auburn, celebrates Harmony Day as a way to recognise all cultures.
Manager Julie Isaac said every day is Harmony Day at Harkola.
“We go that extra mile to bring in a range of delicious, multicultural products depending on what the local demand and needs are,” she said.
“We are very proud to be supporting such a multicultural area.”
Feeling the same way, Allcare Locksmiths and Security in Lidcombe has celebrated Harmony Day every year.
Owner Tony Douglas said it was something he believed in strongly and that they always got involved in it.
“It’s a big deal for our children; they are growing up in a truly multicultural society and we want to show our support as much as possible,” he said.
Australian Anatolian Community Services’ Director Georgina Boumoussa says that each year the families they service come together and celebrate the diversity in the community.
“It’s a day where we acknowledge one another’s cultures,” she said.
“Our families will dress up and bring a plate of food to share on Harmony Day.”
Al-Faisal College Executive Principal Safia Khan Hassanein says Harmony Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the diversity and inclusion of all people who have contributed to our beautiful country to make it a better place.
“The colour orange is traditionally worn as a symbol of social communication, meaningful conversations and respect for all cultures, beliefs and background,” she said.
“Happy Harmony Day from Al-Faisal College staff and students!”
