Time to act up to get what you want in life

ACTING classes aren’t just reserved for aspiring thespians, they can help relieve stress and boost confidence, communication and creativity in everyone.

Darlo Drama’s Romney and Glen Hamilton have partnered with Cumberland Council to offer a free online acting class for beginners via zoom and starting this month.
Romney says an acting class can help every area of your life, with their classes suitable for anyone aged from 18 to 80.
“Whether you walk into acting class after a stressful day at work, you will be able to drop off some baggage while you’re there,” she said.
Some dramatic scenes require you to tap into emotions like anger, despair, love, shame and yearning; while this isn’t easy for a beginning actor, you’ll become more comfortable tapping into your full emotional range as time goes on, giving you a much-needed emotional outlet.
Creativity, the scarcest resource in any organisation, can be boosted by doing something outside your comfort zone, with barristers, lawyers, doctors and salespeople often among an acting class line-up.
Being caught off guard, speaking at an event, or dealing with a conflict at work, can make our voice do funny things.
“A big part of acting class is learning to work with the power of your natural voice, which by the way, doesn’t have to be booming,” Romney said.
“You will definitely increase your public speaking skills.”
