The win sees him scoring a seat at the Brad Fittler Medal as well as a NSW Blues Supporters Pack and a plaque to acknowledge his achievement.
Khalil or ‘Killa’ as he is affectionately known, has been involved with rugby league for nearly 15 years and took over as secretary of Greenacre Tigers in 2016.
He leads by example and is at the ground for training, as well as games on Wednesday and Friday nights, and Saturday and Sunday.
He acts as a trainer for the A Grade team on away games and for home games, fills the role of Ground Manager or First Aid Officer.
He is a role model in the Muslim community, instilling core values of good sportsmanship and representing Greenacre with pride, and does so with good humour which visiting teams appreciate.
The Sir Joseph Banks High PE teacher, year advisor and sports organiser says that although it’s nice to be recognised, that’s not why he does it.
“There are many club volunteers who work as hard as I do including Club President Ali Yatim,” he said.
“We’ve been on a mission to grow membership and it’s now one of the biggest with over 400 members in 27 teams but we still need more girls and women to register and help fill out a few teams.”
The former Chullora Public School student says he is passionate about footy because he has seen how it has changed lives.
“When you’re involved in footy in training and games, there’s more structure and responsibility and it puts you on a better path so I’m always pushing it and for six months of the year, it keeps me very busy but I love it.”
