Sydney Thunder coach Shane Bond admitted to feeling confident heading into the game after defeating the Hurricanes by 57 runs to progress to the knockout final.
Justifying that confidence, and continuing his brilliant form at the top of the batting order, Englishman Alex Hales smashed 59 runs from 35 deliveries to lead the Thunder to 151.
However the Strikers looked on track for victory through captain Alex Carey and Jonathan Wells before Callum Ferguson nailed a game-changing run out and sparked a batting collapse.
Daniel Sams was the best of the Thunder’s bowlers, taking 3/26 in his four overs and the left-arm quick also showed exactly why he’s the competition’s ‘Golden Arm’, holding his nerve to take 2/5 from the 19th over.
Riding high on a three-game winning streak, the Thunder now head south to take on the Melbourne Stars on Thursday, with the winner progressing to the grand final against the Sydney Sixers at the SCG on Saturday.
Sams says the key to beating Melbourne Stars will be taking the wickets of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell who have scored 1001 runs combined to date in this campaign.
“How we do that, we’ll have a look at that during the week,” he said.
