Three Giant newcomers ready for season kickoff

COUNTING down to the opening round of the AFL season on March 21, three new faces have been added to the Giants 2020 leadership group under incoming captain 26-year-old Stephen Coniglio.

Taking up official roles for the first time, reigning Coleman Medallist Jeremy Cameron, 26, forward Toby Greene, 26, and wingman Lachie Whitfield, 25, have all been elevated to the six-person leadership group, joining midfielders Josh Kelly, 24, and Matt De Boer, 29.
After eight years in the top job, former co-captains Phil Davis and Callan Ward are officially out but general manager of football, Jason McCartney, said the pair had led the club “brilliantly since inception” and their ongoing support puts the club in “a really strong position” for the upcoming season.
The Giants AFLW team led by Alicia Eva, also had three new additions to their five-member leadership group with Cora Staunton, Pepa Randall and Britt Tully joining fourth season veteran Jessica Dal Pos.
“Hopefully we can bring the team to a really good place and have a really good, successful season,” Staunton said.
While the women kicked off their eight game season with a one point win against the Gold Coast Suns on February 8, the men will kick off their competition at home in the Giants Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park against Geelong in an inaugural AFL/AFLW double-header for premiership points on March 21.
