Thousands young, old impacted as community sport’s ‘cancelled’

MORE than 7,000 senior and junior players from the Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association (GDSFA) have also been impacted with no games or training permitted in the next fortnight.

“The NSW Government has made it very clear that community sport will not be permitted during this period,” a Football NSW spokesperson said.
“Therefore, all football activities within Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong are suspended immediately until 11.59pm on Friday, July 9.”
GDSFA General Manager Scott Sadler is urging everyone to “stay safe and sensible” so that the Covid outbreak can be contained as quickly as possible so community sport can resume.
“I was out jogging on Sunday and was amazed at the number of families seeming to gather in parks for picnics,” he said.
“A stay-at-home order means exactly that and if you’re not working, exercising, buying food or visiting the doctor, you need to abide by this directive. If everyone is sensible, there’s a good chance we will be back playing again on July 10.”
