Thousands owed refund

MOTORISTS are being urged to claim their share of unpaid CTP rebates from the State Government with more than 16,500 unclaimed refunds in a dozen suburbs in Cumberland alone.

The refunds are the result of reforms to compulsory third-party insurance (CTP) which came into effect in December 2017, with saw some drivers overpaying for that year.
Extending the deadline to claim until September 30, and giving motorists an extra three months to claim a refund, Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello urged vehicle owners to check their eligibility.
“We know that cost of living is a big issue facing households, which is why we delivered this refund, potentially worth up to $120 per refund,” he said.
“A decision on how unclaimed monies will be returned to motorists will be confirmed following consultation with NRMA and Choice.”
Also urging people to claim their refunds, NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said it would be a shame to miss out.
“A one off cash injection into the bank account of up to $120 will go a long way to helping the family budget,” he said.
For example, in Merrylands, 13,065 eligible motorists have already claimed more than $850,000 in CTP refunds, however another 3,394 individuals are still owed their share of over $165,000.
