The venue, its underground area and the rest of the mosque complex were filled to capacity well before the official starting time of 7.30am, with the overflow of worshippers spilling onto the pavement and nearby Wangee Rd.
Eid Al-Adha, the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates the willingness of Prophet Abrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God and is marked by prayers, feasts and charitable acts.
Speakers Sheikh Yahya Safi (Imam of Lakemba Mosque) and Lebanese Muslim Association Secretary Gamel Kheir both reminded the congregation of the importance of unity and supporting those who are suffering.
“Our strength is in unity and our weakness is in division and infighting,” Mr Kheir said.
