Third player and third generation life win

BERALA Bear Jaxon McGrath is only the third player in the history of the club to be nominated for life membership which will also make him a third-generation life member following in the footsteps of Dad Craig and Granddad Brian.

To top off the recent gala weekend, the plucky 17-year-old was awarded a trophy for playing over 200 games with the Bears, with Deon Elkalal, 11, also honoured after playing over 100 games with the club.
Bears President Omar Sankari said Jaxon was super excited to receive the nomination.
“He’s a committed and talented player and we are very proud of his efforts,” he said.
Still struggling to fill teams in the Under 14s and 15s age groups, Omar said they were fielding 13 teams this season.
“We haven’t fully recovered from the impact of Covid last year but we were on our way and now we’ve had to stop again for this present lockdown,” he said.
“Hopefully our competition can still get underway on July 17, that’s what we’re all hoping for and then we will be looking to build up the club numbers again ahead of the 2022 season.”
When the Bears emerge from lockdown hibernation, they will also be on the hunt for coaches.
“It’s a wonderful club to be a part of and I invite anyone who has a few hours to spare a week to coach to get in touch with us via facebook and instagram,” Sankari said.
