Teenager wins scholarship to pursue circus art dream

CANTERBURY teen Annabelle Pendleton is a step closer to achieving her dream after being awarded a $5,000 Variety Heart Scholarship.

The 14-year-old Canterbury Girls High School student is a keen circus arts performer with Sydney Trapeze School and the funds will cover the cost of ongoing circus arts training camps and lessons.
A gymnast since the age of four, Annabelle switched to circus arts training six years ago and mum Nicole said she was a passionate performer hoping to turn professional in the future.
Thanks to the scholarship, Annabelle’s fees will be covered for the next 12 months.
“I am losing my job at the end of the year and though confident of finding more work, was worried how I was going to manage covering her circus arts fees as a single parent,” she said.
“Annabelle is an extremely talented performer and works very hard, attending three junior troupe rehearsals a week as they perform at festivals and birthday parties, takes two classes a week herself and then assists in the training of younger performers.
“To get this support from Variety so Annabelle can achieve her dreams is unbelievable; we can’t thank them enough.”
Applications will open again for Variety Heart Scholarships in May 2024.
