Last year, Tyson was the youngest ever fighter selected to challenge for the NSW State K1 Kickboxing title with his championship win amazing many.
Training at Campsie’s Australian Kickboxing Academy under founder and coach Jim Perdios, Tyson was the first of the gym’s athletes last year to fight for the title and the gym’s first championship win after just seven years.
Jim said that when they met, 14-year-old Tyson told him he wanted to be a world champion.
“You usually take comments like that with a grain of salt but I knew this kid was serious and now he’s on his way,” he said.
“After his recent NSW win, he didn’t even celebrate; just straight home to bed.
“It’s like that with all of my fighters who are very talented and dedicated, they don’t drink or party but are into healthy living because they take their sport so seriously.”
Coaching young Kickboxers and working in the family restaurant when he is not training twice a day for four to five hours, Tyson is incredibly excited with the victory.
“My goal is to turn professional and I feel like everything is falling into place,” he said.
“You have to find your limits and push past those limits to achieve your goals; as long as you are dedicated you will have success.”
