Selected to compete in the NSW team heading to the Australian Juniors national competition in Queensland in December, Canterbury Girls High School student Tallara Joseph-Riogi came first in the girls 14 years Discus (39.88m), first in Javelin (40.46m) and second in Shotput (12.16m).
She also came first at the Zone Championships in Discus throwing 36m, first in Shotput (11m) and first in Javelin.
The Canterbury Little Athletics member is the new State record holder in Javelin throwing 46.63m, with the previous record 43m.
Canterbury Girls High School Sports Coordinator Ngaire Hadfield said Tallara, a young Dharug woman, was hard-working and humble about her sporting achievements.
“Canterbury Girls is proud and excited for Tallara and we will definitely be following her on this tremendous journey,” she said.
Bass High School student Emeric Tauolo Fuamatu came first in the boys 15 years Shotput, throwing 15.92m.
PDHPE teacher and Sydney South West Athletics team manager Alison Ryan said it was an outstanding achievement.
“He is a quietly spoken, polite boy who has a big future,” she said.
Other winners included Ben Pittman coming second in the boys 1500m Pentathlon and Maximos Papacostantinou coming first in boys 12-15 years 800m Multi-Class (for students with a disability) and third in the Multi-Class Discuss, with both from Menai High School; and Punchbowl Boys High School’s Gibral Khodr came third in the boys 16-19 years 400m Hurdles; with Picnic Point High School’s Joshua Iofrida coming third in the boys 17-19 years Long Jump and Kayla Barton coming second in the girls 16 years Javelin.
