Teen basketball players hunt for Asia-Pacific day

BASKETBALL loving teenagers from Asia-Pacific heritage, are being urged to register for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Tournament at Auburn Basketball Centre on September 30.

With teams coming from Canberra, the Central Coast and across Sydney, the competition is for Under 14s, 16s and 18s and there will be opportunity to play multiple games on the day.
Auburn Basketball Centre General Manager Dawn Burke said the tournament had grown rapidly over the years.
“If you can’t get a team together but you want to be part of it and play, we can organise to get you in a team,” she said.
“However, there are limited team spots available, so be quick. Spots are filled on a first come, first served basis.”

Meanwhile Auburn Basketball Centre has launched a ‘Learn to Play Pickleball’ initiative on Sundays, 10am-12pm, with all invited.
A cross between tennis and table tennis, Pickleball is played on a court similar to badminton. “In fact tennis and badminton players who thought their sporting days were over, often get a pleasant surprise to find that they adapt to the smaller court and less physical demands,” Dawn said.
“It’s great for Parkinson’s patients who find new purpose and improvement in their gait, their concentration and their willingness to participate.
“Anyone can play, any age, gender or ability. It also suits those with disability who are looking for some exercise and fun.” Details: 9646 3840.
