TAP student takes lead as exciting show debuts

IF you’re looking for an exciting activity for the whole family, don’t miss The Regals Musical Society’s production of Disney’s Newsies Jr, starring Picnic Point’s Nicholas Otomancek (pictured), premiering tonight and on offer until Saturday at Rockdale Town Hall.

Disney’s Newsies Jr. is an abridged version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film, and inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York.  When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly, played by Nicholas, 18, rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions.  Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right.
Nicholas is a member of the Canterbury Bankstown Talent Advancement Program and has been taking singing lessons since he was in Kindergarten.
“I’m so thrilled to be performing with Regals Musical Society and playing the lead role in a show which reflects justice, loyalty and unity,” he said.
With a cast of 51 of the area’s most talented young actors, you will be moved by the power of their harmonies and athletic choreography to some now-classic songs such as ‘Carrying the Banner’, ‘Seize the Day’, and ‘Santa Fe’.
