Tanner too good to pass up

A FEW unfamiliar faces as well as a couple of favourites are set to run out for the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants in 2021.

In the first round of the 2020 NAB AFL Draft, the Giants used their first three picks to nab midfielder Tanner Bruhn, medium forward/defender Conor Stone and left-footed medium forward/defender Ryan Angwin.
The club’s fourth pick was defender Cameron Fleeton with their final choice, 22-year-old South Australian Jacob Wehr while at Thursday night’s Rookie Draft, the Giants also signed up half-back Will Shaw and welcomed back two familiar faces in Sam Reid and Zach Sproule.
Giants national recruiting manager Adrian Caruso described Tanner as a “top-end talent who was too good to pass up”.
“While predominantly a midfielder, Tanner has shown before he can play down back or in attack and that versatility will help him as he looks for senior opportunities,” Caruso said.
“He is driven and a super competitor – attributes we place a very high importance on.”
Caruso was also pleased to pick up a player with the flexibility of Stone, describing him as “a powerful and versatile player”.
“We love his competitiveness and running ability and think he will develop into a player who can fill a few different roles.”
The club’s third first-round pick only turned 18 last week but Caruso says that while he has “a slight frame”, they believe his footy fundamentals are strong.
“We were looking to add a player who can fill some outside roles with elite running ability, and he was the standout in that area of the draft,” he said.
