While speaking to students in Years 3-4 and 5-6 at Auburn Public School, police included teachers and parents in the conversations about the dangers of online usage and how to be proactive about being safe online and responsible when using gaming, chat programs and sharing private information.
“This was a wholistic approach to speak to teachers and parents as social media usage and devices are very common in today’s younger culture and often a challenge for some people to navigate,” Auburn Police Youth Officer, Senior Constable Gabriella Di Marino, said.
“Although the intention when using the devices and programs is to share information on a positive note, some people don’t always comply with this notion,” she said.
Police have strongly encouraged any school group, parent group, community group or service, tertiary service, senior’s group or company to contact police and book an appointment to discuss social media, internet usage or even scams.
