For the first time, all 458 students selected for special HSC showcases – a selection of top major works from students across the creative and performing arts and technologies on show throughout NSW – were celebrated at an Oscars-like awards ceremony.
Minister for Education and Early Learning, Sarah Mitchell, said it was a fantastic opportunity for schools and the public to witness the talents of young people and provide another platform for graduates to launch future careers in the field they are passionate about.
“It really felt like the Oscars of the HSC creative arts world,” Ms Mitchell said.
“I strongly encourage schools, teachers and members of the community to take a look at this year’s showcases as they move around the State or join in online.”
Part of the showcase, Artexpress is the annual series of exhibitions of exemplary artworks created by visual arts students for the HSC examination and will be on display at the Art Gallery of NSW, February 2 to May 7, and at the Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park, March 6 to April 16.
A series of paintings by Maria Kontakos from Bankstown Girls High School, will be part of the exhibition.
Visual Art teacher, Electra Vassiliou said Maria worked diligently and tirelessly to produce a technically accomplished and powerful Body of Work, titled Ever-present, which consists of a series of paintings represented in a realistic manner.
