She followed this win up with taking out the JT Junior 125 Blacktown tournament in singles and doubles and has now been selected to represent NSW at the Bruce Cup National Tennis Championships in Darwin in September.
Taught by Grandpa, Abigail first picked up a racquet aged six years but it wasn’t until parents Jenny and Dennis booked her in for professional lessons with CBTA coach Richard Kellert, that her game really took off.
“Since then, she has hugely improved,” Jenny said.
“She deserves this success as she is so dedicated, training six days a week which is a lot for a little girl.
“The Bruce Cup is the highest level of primary school sport you can do to represent NSW so we are very proud as it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as next year she’ll be in high school.”
Coach Richard says Abigail is very dedicated and driven, has great family support and is a happy person which are key to making it to elite level.
“It’s great to see recognition for all her hard work and we are proud to have her as part of the KTPSports and CBTA family.
“The path we are planning for the next couple of years is to make professional; Abigail definitely has the ability and now it’s the fun part of watching the progress and seeing where it leads.”
Jenny said that while the thought of Abigail competing in Darwin against the best juniors in Australia was exciting, the cost of airfares, accommodation and fees for Abigail and Dennis to attend, was in the thousands, with the airfares alone costing $3,600.
