Taking action to fix killer hair-pin bend

A DANGEROUS hair-pin bend at Picnic Point where a motorcyclist was killed a few months ago, will receive a $500,000 upgrade.

There have been numerous near misses at the notorious hair-pin turn off Henry Lawson Drive, and residents living nearby said the fatal collision was only a matter of time, reinforcing their demand for action.
The $500,000 project, jointly funded by City of Canterbury Bankstown and Transport for NSW, will improve road safety and visibility for all motorists and residents using the access road.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said he had listened to the concerns of locals.
“We’ve heard of countless incidents of motorists flying around this hair-pin with complete disregard for the safety of other motorists and the residents living alongside the road,” he said.
“One life lost, is one too many – it’s only a matter of time before another incident occurs.”The works will include the widening of the intersection of the adjoining service road at 901-921 Henry Lawson Drive with new kerb and guttering, and earth works to improve visibility for residents to safely enter and exit the road.
The work is expected to begin before Christmas and be completed early 2021.
