Takes on world to win selection

YAGOONA’S Amanda Chen is among eight young Australian musicians selected out of 160 applications worldwide to join the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Fellowship program.

The annual, year-long program provides the next generation of musicians – all under the age of 30 – with the mentoring and skills to pursue a professional career in music.
Now in its 21st year and for the first time, the Fellowship program will be guided by 12 of the Sydney Symphony’s permanent musicians, drawn from across the orchestra, who will guide the artistic direction and professional development activities of the program.
Amanda said she was very excited to be accepted into the program.
“I’m very glad that this opportunity has come at this time in my life as it’s a perfect way to restart after two years of lockdown,” the young violinist said.
“I hope to gain confidence and acquire the skills for working in an orchestra, so that I can be well prepared for a career for playing music in a professional orchestra.
“From April 15-17, the Fellows will head to Bermagui for the Four Winds Festival, and also go on a regional tour to Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo with the orchestra. It’s great that we can travel to play music!”
