Take up ‘apprenticeship’ offer while still at school

YOUNG people can now learn from a multi-award winning education service provider while still at school after Parramatta Community College was given the green light to offer government-subsidised School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) and General Apprenticeships and Traineeships.
SBATs are available to all Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students in NSW, allowing them to undertake an apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while at school, while General Apprenticeships and Traineeships are available to high school leavers.
A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship combines paid work, training and school, and as well as an industry recognised national qualification, you will gain credit towards the HSC.
Some apprenticeships and traineeships can also contribute towards the ATAR.
When you study with Parramatta Community College, you will: Get hands-on industry experience, nationally recognised training and your HSC; you could skip to the second year of an apprenticeship after you finish school (SBAT only); and could gain at least four units of credit towards your HSC.
After successfully completing a school-based traineeship, you’ll be fully qualified and can begin full time work or continue on to further study, including additional traineeships or apprenticeships.
PCC Programs Manager Merven Virueda said the focus was not only on quality education for all, but also on ensuring that training was accessible.
“Educating participants for life – from those still at school, school leavers and adult learners wanting to make a career switch or indulge in a hobby, to retirees wanting to keep themselves abreast of technology, PCC should be your first port of call,” he said.
