She could not have imagined how much richer life would become when she was working as a public servant six years ago.
Feeling frustrated in her desire to help more people, Erica resigned from her secure job and took a role with not-for-profit services provider Uniting where she stayed for a year before branching out on her own.
“It was the best thing I’ve ever done,” she said.
She started Able Choice Pty Ltd, serving Cumberland residents with low to high needs that need assistance navigating the NDIS or with home care.
“Some of the cases are difficult with many struggling just to survive but I give them everything I’ve got and it’s an amazing feeling,” she said.
“I could take on more clients but I am very much about providing a high-quality service and not spreading myself too thinly.
“I would encourage any woman who has an idea to help others or to better herself, to just go for it; don’t hold yourself back as you never know your capabilities until you try.”
With the 2022 campaign theme, #BreakTheBias, International Women’s Day is an annual global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women since its establishment in 1911.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.
