Swim centre’s open over hols

AN avid swimmer at Merrylands Swim Centre, George Lahoud is among the many thrilled the centre’s days of operation are being extended to the end of April.

He said it meant he was able to continue swimming four days a week at the centre.
“I have been swimming at Merrylands since 1997 so the longer opening times are very welcome,” the 65-year-old said.
“Normally at this time of year, my friends and I have to make the switch to Guildford which has an indoor pool and is open throughout the year.”
Also a cyclist, he urged more to take advantage of the longer opening hours and use it as an opportunity to improve health.
“Swimming is perfect for exercise and relaxation,” he said.
Mayor Lisa Lake said: “I’m delighted that the council is able to keep the Merrylands Swim Centre open this season for an additional four weeks during the autumn school holidays, with the last day of operation being extended until Sunday, April 28.
“This gives our community an opportunity to enjoy the warmer weather and socialise with family and friends.”
