Swifts hang on for dear life in thriller

IT was heartbreak for Giants Netball fans and relief for NSW Swifts followers after the final round of the national netball competition at Qudos Bank arena on Saturday.

But sad Giants knocked out of finals for first time

A 70-60 win over the West Coast Fever wasn’t enough to save the Giants from missing out on the finals for the first time in their short history, after the Collingwood Magpies spectacularly leapt into fourth spot on the ladder due to a superior percentage.
Meanwhile the Swifts survived a one-goal scare to win against wooden spooners, the Queensland Firebirds, after squandering a four-goal, quarter-time lead and winding up in a dogfight that was only decided in the dying seconds of the game.
The Swifts will now travel north to take on minor premier Sunshine Coast Lightning in the major semi-final on Saturday, August 31.
