Swifts consolidate spot at top of table after 16-goal trouncing

THE NSW Swifts have strengthened their position on top of the Suncorp Super Netball ladder with a 68-52 victory over the Collingwood Magpies at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday.

NSW claimed all eight points, winning each quarter with a commanding second period the key in a tight affair up to that point.
A contact call by Shimona Nelson and a high-pressure goal on the first quarter buzzer by Wallace, gave the first bonus point to the Swifts, 17-14.
A string of changes from the Magpies after a time-out in the second quarter, wasn’t enough to change the tide, with the Swifts holding strong and taking the second bonus point – and an eight-goal lead to the halftime break.
The third quarter was heavy on turnovers for both sides, with the teams looking a little frantic at times with their passes, but the Swifts extended their lead to 10 before a time-out was called with five minutes to go.
The fourth quarter highlighted the patience and composure of the Swifts in both the attack and defensive end, and it was enough to break away even further to finish with a 16-goal win, 68-52.

The GWS Giants are sitting in fourth spot on the ladder after winning their third match of the season, overpowering the Adelaide Thunderbirds 65-54 at Qudos Bank Arena.
The Thunderbirds tried hard for four quarters but couldn’t slow down the Giants, who were too classy and looked like they could be getting back to their 2018 form.
The Swifts head to Brisbane to face the Queensland Firebirds on Sunday, while the Giants head to Perth to take on an improved Fever team on Saturday Night.
