Swap children’s clothes and toys tomorrow invite

THE popular Children’s Clothing and Toy Swap initiative which aims to educate the community on improving recycling behaviours, reducing waste and minimising landfill, will return this Thursday.

Residents are encouraged to head to Merrylands Customer Service Centre, 9.30am to 11am, where they will be able exchange clothes and toys their children have outgrown, for something more fitting.
Cumberland Mayor Lisa Lake said the event came at a time when families were facing high cost of living pressures.
“Over 20 percent of households in Cumberland are considered low-income households, so we know that there are some families who are struggling with the current costs of living including household items, buying clothes, toys, etc, so this is a really good opportunity to refresh your child’s wardrobe,” Mayor Lake said.
“The average Australian purchases 27kg of new clothing and textiles every year and discards 23kg into landfill so this is a great environmental initiative that encourages residents to recycle their unwanted items.”
Any items that remain after the swap will be donated to a local charity.
Places are limited, so be sure to register at cumberland.nsw.gov.au
