To celebrate National Carers Week from October 16-22, Cumberland Council, Carer Gateway and Benevolent Society in partnership with Your Side, will be providing free info sessions.
Your Side’s Julia Brown says Carers Week is all about thanking carers.
“Throughout October, we are keen to help as many carers as possible,” she said.
“We are running amazing competitions and doing cool prize giveaways; check it all out at yourside.org.au.”
Your Side CEO Danielle Ballantine says one in 10 in Australia are carers.
“The Carer Gateway provides services including counselling and peer support, respite care, short-term financial aid and specialised services for young carers including tutoring and even driving lessons,” she said.
“Carer Gateway is not means tested so if you are, or know, a carer, then call the Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 and reach out for support.”
The free info sessions are on Tuesday, October 11, 6-7.30pm at Berala Community Centre and on Thursday, October 20, 10-11.30am at Guildford Community Centre.
The following night on Friday, October 21, 6-8.45pm, also at Guildford Community Centre, carers are invited to a ‘Comedy for a Cause – Show and Dinner’.
It’s free for carers and $25 for care recipients with $13 transport (return trip) available.
