Support available for any challenge

Caseworker can help in crisis

CatholicCare worker Patricia can help you understand your rights and increase your access to local services.

REACH out when you don’t know where to turn for help. Your local community care worker is ready and waiting.
CatholicCare, one of Sydney’s largest social services agencies, is working to strengthen families and support individuals in Berala and surrounding areas.
In partnering with St Peter Chanel and St Joseph Parish in Berala, the agency is making it easier for locals to access services through offering support within their local community.
Patricia Lay is the CatholicCare Community Care Worker in Berala.
“When I realised being a care worker allowed me to have an impact on people’s lives, I decided to use this privilege to give people in need of help the advantage,” she said.
“The advantage of understanding their rights and access to services to improve their circumstances.”
Patricia has supported refugee and asylum seekers through her career and worked as a Specialist Homelessness Caseworker, providing crisis and transitional accommodation and advocacy to single women and their dependent children.
“I have helped many through struggles, and am always encouraged by the incredible resilience, motivation and self-determination they show in changing their lives and the lives of their families for the better,” she said.
The Communities of Care program in the Berala area is presently based online and over the phone due to lockdown restrictions.
This service is available to anyone in the community who may need help with personal issues, counselling, relationships, parenting, ageing, disability and mental health.
