Taking part in her first World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds through sponsors in an effort to find a cure to blood cancers, Carol said she was inspired to undertake the challenge after losing her brother to cancer and her sister to leukaemia.
With no screening programs available and no means of prevention through lifestyle changes, blood cancer is Australia’s hidden cancer crisis.
Every day, 53 Aussies are diagnosed with blood cancer, and 16 will lose their lives.
“That’s why I’ve decided to take part and hope to raise crucial funds that help give those facing blood cancer all the support and information they need and also to help discover better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer,” Carol said.
“Every donation will help, no matter the size, I will be very grateful.”
With $30 now raised, Carol said her goal was to raise $700.
“I want to thank my neighbour Jenny and her mum for the shave which I’m really getting used to, especially on these hot days,” she said.
“I’ll do anything I can to help ease the suffering of the sick and after all, hair grows back, doesn’t it.”
