On a mission to grow their hair as long as possible, Joshua Allerton, Jake Casey and Edvin Muratagic gave themselves a year to grow their hair and raise sponsorship funds ahead of having it shaved off last Sunday.
They aimed to raise $400 but have managed to gather $1,955.
Joshua’s Mum Beth said he got the idea after questioning why her friend was taking part in a previous fundraiser and cutting her hair.
“When my friend explained it was to create awareness and help raise money to research cures for leukaemia and other blood cancers, Joshua asked ‘do kids get that too?’ and when we said that they did, he was adamant that he wanted to help,” she said.
“He even got two of his friends involved and they encouraged each other; it was such a beautiful thing for them to do and we are extremely proud of them.”
Beth said they each shaved each other’s locks off, with plenty of hair-raising comments.
Edvin was heard saying: “You two are terrible stylists.”
Jake said: “Don’t shave off my eyebrows or ears.”
Josh said: “I don’t think mum is going to be happy … school photos are in two weeks.”
Beth added: “But I think my husband summed it up best when he said that ‘not all super heroes wear capes, but our super heroes do … a hairdressing cape’.”
‘Super hero’ mates raise $2000
STANDING taller even without hair, a trio of Tower Street Public School Year 6 ‘besties’ have raised almost $2,000 during their year-long ‘Worlds Greatest Shave’ campaign.
