Summit focus on jobs

A SERIES of targeted Jobs Summits will bring together the community, business and government, to provide an insight into the impact of Covid-19 on jobs and give a better understanding of localised employment issues.

Mayor Khal Asfour said the summits would include a selection of businesses and key stakeholders, community and not-for-profit organisations, education providers and State and Federal governments, coming together to collaborate on identifying new solutions and opportunities to enhance Canterbury Bankstown’s economic prosperity.
“It’s important that we think ahead, think about what we can do in 2021,” he said.
“There is no doubt the road to economic recovery, will be paved with jobs, and that road must run through our City.”
Throughout the past six months, the Mayor has been on the road and travelling around the City listening to the concerns of residents and the many challenges that businesses are facing on a daily basis.
“The human face of the effects of this pandemic was very evident,” he said, “people are really hurting”.
“The stories across the City are all too familiar: One resident I spoke with told me how they had been stood down after the company they had worked at for 20 years was forced to close down; and a small business owner, who became quite emotional when he told me how he had been digging into his life’s savings just to try and keep his business from going bust.”
