The first was presented to her by the Co-ordinator of the RSL NSW Auxiliaries Association, Pauline James, and RSL NSW President Ray James.
A Life Member of RSL NSW and a former NSW RSL State Council member, Ann said she was thrilled with the RSL NSW quilt presentation which was a complete surprise.
“I first joined Lakemba Sub-branch in 1963 and have been heavily involved with the RSL since then; I must have finally got enough brownie points,” she said with a laugh.
“I knew I was getting the second quilt from the Women’s Veterans’ Network because I had to supply my rank, serial number, years of service and my OAM details which are all included on the quilt but the RSL NSW quilt presentation came as a surprise on the day before, I got quite emotional.”
Ann says both quilts are stunning and the second quilt is very colourful and beautiful which she may use as her bedspread or hang as a mural on the wall.
“The RSL NSW quilt is more masculine and features a lot of planes since I was in the airforce; I’m thinking of giving it to my four-year-old grandson Angus for his bed which I’m sure he would be very excited about.”
The 84-year-old who is Bankstown RSL’s first female vice president and an associate member of Bankstown Sub-branch, said her connection to Bankstown went back a long way.
“I used to go there with my veteran Dad John Ross; I think he would be very proud.”
