Sub-branch on hunt for members

THEY’RE working hard to keep the flag flying, as Honorary Secretary Lloyd Newman says, but Chester Hill-Carramar RSL Sub-branch has dwindling membership as older veterans are lost.

Rallying new troops to help fill the gap, Mr Newman says anyone who has served or is serving in the Australian Defence Force, is more than welcome and urged to come along and join up for just a $5 registration fee.
“You can be either a former or present full time veteran or a reservist, together with any members in the military forces of allied nations,” he said.
“Our Sub-branch has a great history and ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day are very important times for us.
“They provide us and the community with an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have, and those who still serve our country in attempting to bring peace to the world.”
Mr Newman said assistance could also be provided to members who have welfare or pension-related issues.
“If we can’t help, we can refer you to an agency that can,” he said.
Sub-branch meetings are held on the third Saturday of the month, with the next on this Saturday (March 18), from 10.30am at the RSL club.
“These meetings provide an opportunity for members to enjoy camaraderie and social interaction with their fellow service and ex-service members at a ‘no charge morning tea’ featuring an enjoyable, convivial atmosphere,” Mr Newman said.
