MIGRANTS can now undertake English classes until they reach their preferred higher levels of language proficiency thanks to recent changes to Lidcombe TAFE’s Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).
A Federal Government funded program, AMEP provides eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants who arrived on or before October 1, 2020, with access to English classes and childcare for children under school age.
TAFE NSW AMEP Contract Manager Mandy Nour says this means greater opportunities for migrants and refugees.
“English language skills make an enormous difference for our migrants and refugees and their participation in Australia,” she said.
Su Chang, 41, migrated to Australia in 2018 from Malaysia and said it was a tremendous challenge to begin a new life where everything seemed so unfamiliar.
She enrolled in Certificate II in Spoken and Written English at TAFE NSW Lidcombe in 2020 through AMEP.
“I am now undertaking my third term of the AMEP evening classes, and it’s been a wonderful experience,” Ms Chang said.
“My English language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing are improving rapidly.”
“I would encourage everyone to enrol in AMEP at TAFE NSW.”
