As well as many of the male staff taking on the Movember challenge, seeing who could grow the best ‘Mo to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, Year 10 Food Technology students raised $540 through making and selling cupcakes.
Then Year 8 and Year 11 jumped on board with Mo-Cones Snow Cones and raised an extra $250.
Staff held an end of Movember morning tea for a gold coin donation, celebrating Picnic Point High’s combined effort raising $2,250 for the charity. This followed the school’s second year of taking part in the Wrap with Love project, helping to warm up disadvantaged communities around the world.
Ms Lamaro, Ms Roubaie, Alyssa and Year 11 student Bailey delivered 17 completed blankets and numerous squares to the Wrap with Love warehouse in Sydney, thanks to Science staff Ms Adams, Ms Brown and Ms Ng hosting a twice weekly, lunchtime knitting club.
“Many thanks to all staff who also knitted and crocheted for our 2023 Wrap With Love donation,” a spokesperson said.
The school’s further efforts for charity included donating to Keith’s Closet Shoebox Appeal to support people admitted to hospital for mental health issues with essential items gifted as a present.
“Forty shoeboxes were filled with donations from our school community containing items such as underwear, roll-on deodorant, hair brush, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, cologne and sanitary supports,” the spokesperson said.
“The shoeboxes also contained a card of well wishes from our students and were delivered to the charity in early December.”
