Students get latest industry inspiration

SOME of our brightest young minds have taken part in a special CSIRO initiative known as Generation STEM.

It’s all about inspiring our future thinkers and showcasing the exciting career paths they can embark on – right here in Canterbury-Bankstown.
Partnering with Canterbury Bankstown Council, the CSIRO program empowers our young people with the relevant science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) skills to pursue a related career – and helps build a strong community of STEM-capable citizens to fuel local industry.
Students were connected with industries such as Western Sydney Airport, Lincoln Electric, TAFE Taster Program at Padstow and Quickstep, to give them exposure to local career opportunities while also developing their STEM skills that will prepare them for the future workforce.
More than 160 Year 9 and 10 students from Punchbowl Boys High, Belmore Boys High, Bankstown Girls High, Canterbury Boys High, Condell Park High, East Hills Girls Technology High, La Salle Catholic College, Wiley Park Girls High and Mount St Joseph Catholic College, have taken part.
Mayor Khal Asfour said the initiative had given students the opportunity to challenge themselves and explore their potential, while gaining experience in solving real-world and local issues.
