Students enjoy ‘mini Olympics’

WITH students cheering “Aussie Aussie Aussie and Oi Oi Oi”, Bankstown South Infants School (pictured) has hosted their own spectacular Olympics celebration.

An opening ceremony introducing all the countries the students’ families represented, was followed by a torch relay led by Principal Leyla Derbas before the cauldron was lit.
Next up was a range of different sporting events including hurdles, jumping sack races, egg and spoon races, parachute games, basketball, handball, gymnastics and soccer.
Mrs Derbas said the staff wanted to provide the students with a powerful platform for enriching learning about the Olympics.
“That’s why we hosted an Olympics Multicultural Day, celebrating inclusivity, unity and determination,” she said.
“It was a way to reflect the values of teamwork, respect and a shared joy found in the Olympics.
“It was also a day of learning, connection and celebration; reinforcing our commitment to a welcoming and inclusive educational environment.”
