Students dedicate handmade wreath

AFTER each class prepared a wreath of poppies, Chullora Public School took part in a ceremony last month to honour Remembrance Day.

The wreaths were placed at their flagpole during a formal assembly as the poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’, by John McCrae, was recited by school leaders.
Remembrance Day coordinator and teacher Kerry Mikellides said it was an important time to stop and remember the sacrifices that men and woman had made to earn our freedom today.
“Our students engage in learning activities to build their knowledge of the event through researching the history of the commemoration and how it came about,” she said.
“The students enjoyed the day which teaches them to have empathy and understanding for those that have lost their lives in wars to keep us safe.”
