Student cooks up support for 1,000 needy in culinary course

BANKSTOWN culinary student Julien Chedid has helped celebrate International Chef’s Day last month by cooking 1,000 gourmet, three-course meals for Aussies in need.

As a student at renowned culinary institute Le Cordon Bleu Australia, Julien worked with 20 chefs and volunteers at Our Big Kitchen to cook and distribute the meals to key charities.
As an added bonus, he got to cook alongside former MasterChef contestant and star of Ch10’s Farm to Fork series, Courtney Roulston, who is Le Cordon Bleu’s brand ambassador.
After months of online learning due to lockdowns, many culinary students like Julien were behind in the practical elements of their studies which is required to progress or graduate so the event was a key opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience while giving back to community and cooking for a cause.
“I was working on the entrees, involving pumpkin, tabouli and hommus, as well as the main meal of fish, pea puree and salad,” the former Holy Spirit Catholic College Lakemba student said.
“It was fantastic to get experience working in the professional, culinary world and putting my skills to use.
“I would certainly put up my hand to volunteer for a future similar initiative, especially one like this that you know is for such a great cause.”
