SHOPPERS and the business community around Little Saigon in the Old Bankstown Plaza may have been surprised to see so many police in the area on Saturday but it was all about breaking down barriers, building relationships, cooperation and trust.
While Bankstown Chief Inspector Darren Beeche and his fellows officers chatted with shoppers and business people, the mounted police also rode into town as part of an interactive display, which included several police vehicles.
Insp Beeche said the event – organised by Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce and Bankstown police, with support from council – was very successful and was happy to see so many people getting involved.
Chamber CEO Wally Mehanna said it was also encouraging to see so many residents and business owners mixing it up and getting to know each other.
