But it wasn’t to be, with Northern District passing the Bulldogs’ 118 in the 26th over despite a few scares.
Bulldogs captain Daniel Solway lost the toss at Asquith Oval, and the Bankstown Sports Bulldogs were sent in to bat on a pitch that resembled a minefield.
They were in trouble from the opening overs, and with four ducks, it was Angus Campbell (31) and Brad Simpson (29no) who made the score less of a disaster.
The hosts almost succumbed to the same fate with three of the top order out for just one run each – and all of a sudden, the ‘Dogs were back in the match.
But the score was just too little to defend, despite superb bowling by Marshall (3 for 11) along with Burns (2 for 38).
Strong bowling but lacked runs
SUPERB bowling by Liam Marshall and Daniel Burns had Bulldogs fans on the edge of their seats as they tried to finish off the Northern District’s batsmen in the First Grade Limited Overs Cup.
