Strikers raise nearly $3,000 to help support sufferers

NOT only do they proudly run onto the field showcasing their pink socks to raise awareness for the McGrath Breast Cancer Foundation, Bankstown Sports Strikers Football Club women and girls earn $2 to donate for every goal scored.

Club Treasurer Andrew Skaltsounis said they had donated nearly $3,000 to the McGrath Foundation since the initiative began three years ago.
“We have 10 girls and womens’ teams from ages six years up to adults and at the end of each season, tally up our goal funds with Bankstown Sports Club matching the amount raised,” he said.
“We started the initiative in honour of a long-standing committee member and volunteer who went through and beat breast cancer.
“We feel it’s the least we can do to help such a worthy cause and it’s a great incentive for players.”
With the winter soccer season now underway, Andrew said there were still places available in teams in many age groups and the club was always happy to welcome new registrations.
