One resident, an aged pensioner who has lived in Iluka Street, Riverwood, for 25 years and is one of the many social housing tenants, said it was once a quiet and beautiful street – “but not now”.
“It’s become a dump and a mechanical/dismantling storage site… It looks terrible, it just isn’t a good look,” she said.
Canterbury Bankstown Councillor Karl Saleh has called on NSW Land and Housing to remove the dumped rubbish and car parts and take action against those who continue with any unauthorised activities.
“I‘ve received ongoing complaints of unauthorised use of Iluka Street and Endeavour Place, Riverwood, and something must be done,” he said.
“While it is quite annoying for residents, most of whom take a lot or pride in their homes, it’s also causing significant impact on the local environment in terms of noise and pollution.”
Cr Saleh has written to the council, Lakemba MP Jihad Dib and the Department of Communities and Justice to have the problem solved.
Another resident said they’re a proud group and “to see this rubbish when you walk out the front door is disgusting”.
“Hopefully Cr Saleh can get someone to take notice and fix the problem. It has gone on too long.”
Stop using our street as a dumping ground
SEVERAL residents around the Iluka Street and Endeavour Place in Riverwood, are furious they have to put up with the roads and their housing complex being used a dump and a mechanical and dismantling storage site.
