Stay home if sick as cases rising

WITH several Covid outbreaks across Sydney, including at Regents Park, and the number of Omicron cases on the increase, everyone is being encouraged to continue to wear a mask where they cannot physically distance, especially indoors, and check in using QR codes.

Dr John Hall from NSW Health, says the emergence of the Omicron variant is a timely reminder of the importance of keeping up with all our Covid safe practices and getting tested at the earliest sign of symptoms.
Concerned with the increasing spread of the virus, Dr Hall said pubs, clubs and party setttings were contributing to the increasing cases in NSW, especially with the festive season upon us and people gathering to celebrate.
“We want to reiterate just how important it is for people to not attend any social functions if they haven symptoms, even if they are mild,” he said.
“We have seen several outbreaks across Sydney after people likely to have Omicron attended social gatherings, this is why it is so important with the festive season underway that everyone remains vigilant when gathering to celebrate with friends, family and colleagues.
“There are several precautions you can take when planning for these occasions such as getting together outdoors for group celebrations if you can and if celebrating indoors, choose large, well ventilated spaces and open doors and windows.”
Dr Hall also encouraged people to consider using a rapid antigen test before they go out, but stressed that the test is not to be used if you have symptoms.
“If you have symptoms you need to attend a testing clinic, and, of course, stay home,” he said.
State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz, said the number of positive tests emerging in school communities in Regents Park, Berala, Lidcombe and Auburn, showed Covid was still circulating in the local community.
“Despite the huge level of vaccination, it is vital that anyone required to get a test or displaying symptoms, visits a testing site as soon as possible,” she said.
