There have been 149 locally acquired cases reported since June 16.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Health Minister Brad Hazard announced on Saturday that to protect the community from the evolving Covid-19 outbreak, stay-at-home orders were going to be extended from 6pm – until 11.59pm, Friday, July 9 – across all of Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong, giving the community only hours before being locked down.
“We have always indicated we will not hesitate to go further with restrictions to protect the people of NSW,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“We understand this is a difficult time for everyone, however we need to take these steps now to get on top of this outbreak.”
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour is encouraging everyone to keep doing your part by staying home, wearing a mask and getting tested if you show even the mildest symptoms.
“Let’s remember, we’ve all been through this before and we’ll get through it again,” he said.
“We’re all in this together.”
The council will continue to provide the essential services like waste collection, cleaning of town centres and parks, roads maintenance, and Meals on Wheels service, while childcare facilities will remain open.
However, there have been some changes to services and facilities, including the closure of: Bankstown and Campsie Customer Service Centres (you can still reach them by calling 9707 000 or visiting cb.city/reportit); Community centres and halls; Library and Knowledge Centres; Leisure and Aquatic Centres; Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre; Bankstown Arts Centre; and Bryan Brown Theatre and Function Centre.
