Founded by Bankstown Sports Director Richard Phillips, the club is all-inclusive and trains on Saturday afternoons and plays competition squash on Thursday nights at Milperra Squash Centre against a range of other Sydney clubs in their division.
Club treasurer Craig Roden said it was a big achievement for the club having two of its teams reach the grand final for the first time.
“It’s a fantastic outcome for the club and we hope it will lead to more people in the community having a go at playing squash, especially children and younger people,” he said.
In fact, the club is inviting those aged 11-18 years to enrol in a free Junior Development Program which will run for 10 weeks in Term 4 on Mondays, 5.30-6.30pm.
Run by professional coaches, the program will feature free racquets, balls and eye protectors as per Squash NSW rules.
“If you’re playing other sports, squash is fantastic,” Craig said.
“It’s a wonderful cardiovascular workout and excellent for increasing agility and hand, eye coordination skills.
“Your stamina will be through the roof before very long and it will give you that edge on the soccer or footy field or basketball court.”
