Sporting groups must apply now for defibrillators

LOCAL baseball, footy and netball clubs are urging other sporting groups to take advantage of the State Government’s offer and submit their application for a defibrillator.

Described as a safety net that every sporting club should have, defibrillators give heart attack victims a 90 per cent survival rate compared with a 10 to 20 per cent survival rate with CPR.
Community sport clubs and organisations have until this Friday, February 10, to submit an expression of interest for up to $9,000 to access life-saving defibrillators as part of the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program.
Up to $3,000 is available per device with organisations able to apply for up to three devices valued at $9,000.
East Hills Baseball Club have put in their expression of interest and Greenacre Eagles Football Club has plans too.
Club secretary Bariah Hammoud says they bought one a few years ago, which they have thankfully never had to use, but the battery has run out and so they are keen to get at least another one.
“It’s a 100 per cent great opportunity for sporting clubs, it just gives you that peace of mind,” she said.
Bankstown City Netball Association President Nicole Oram says they have a defibrillator in their clubhouse and first aid room at Deverall Park.
“You can’t have too many,” she said.
“Sporting groups should apply for as many as possible and spread them around.”
