“We wanted to act fast and make a financial contribution to support the work of Disaster Relief Australia in getting support teams out there as quickly as possible to provide relief,” said Mark Condi, CEO, Bankstown Sports Group.
“The unprecedented devastation we were seeing as the emergency services, DRA, local SES teams, the Military and local residents urgently tried to ensure the safety of the local communities is desperate,” he said.
Australia is a nation of meteorological extremes, with NSW residents still reeling from the after-effects of the 2019/20 Black Summer Bushfires. It was following this event that Bankstown Sports Group first engaged directly with Disaster Relief Australia in a bid to assist them with recovery efforts.
“The support from Bankstown Sports Club provides a solid springboard for us to mobilise into areas devastated by the recent floods,” said Geoff Evans, CEO, Disaster Relief Australia.
“This generous support will allow our teams to mobilise and assist flood affected communities for at least four weeks and we couldn’t be more thankful. Together, we can make a positive impact on both individuals and, as a result. the community as a whole.”
Over the years, the incredible work of Disaster Relief Australia has left a distinct impression on Bankstown Sports Group. Through this donation, BSG is hoping to ease the load on Disaster Relief Australia, during its coordination of the clean-up and recovery efforts in affected parts of NSW.
“Australians are in the midst of battling the disastrous effects of COVID-19, and it’s heart-breaking that they are also now faced with the devastating reality of these floods. It’s so important that NSW clubs, who are in a position to do so, band together to ease the local community burden of these disasters,” Mr Condi said.
